The CO2 that gets injected could be causing that. Have you tried "balancing" it out by dripping Kalk? How do you top-off for evaporation? Do you do it manually? You might try dripping Kalk for your top-off water. The high pH could help balance out the drop caused by the CO2. That is what Sprung recommended in vol.3.

How far away from your tank would you have to store your make up water? you can get a Reef Filler pump that will pump 200 feet in any direction.

The problem is the tank is on an outside wall pretty far away from my garage. I thinking of drilling a hole through the outside wall and leaving the water container outside. The problem is talking my wife into letting my drill through our dining room wall in our new house .

I use an Aquamedic Kalkstirrer and a auto topoff pump. I don't have a Ca Reactor for the same reasons you started this thread. I want to do the whole dosing pump method with my own chemical supplements.

You could leave them to automatically dose and up your params as needed. Including trace, strontium and iodine. Then have a week holiday-come home and everything is as you left it. I know cuz I stress when I'm not in front of my tank and go away for just a weekend, let alone a week. I just like the idea of adjusting params rather than relying on a reactor. But everyone is different, some will say Ca Reactor all the way and others, dosing pumps.

I'm also gonna add a fuge to help stabilize my PH. I recently went from a 14KH with 500Ca, it dropped over 2 weeks after I stopped doing my daily KH dosing. Now its at 7KH and 360Ca.
The battle starts again.

Ian, your only talking a quarter inch hole. I don't think, but it mite be your garage is over two hundred feet from your tank. If not you could run a line through your attic ,and fish it down inside the wall behind the tank. Ted

Ted,

I have a two story house, so fishing it down the wall will be pretty tricky. That's why I was thinking about the outside wall. I could probably fish it all the way around the outside of my house, underground, to my garage. Do you think that would be a problem?

I can't see why that would be a problem. How many feet would you have to run ? Ted
