dark brown film

Im getting some serious dark brown film on my rock and sand. I checked the PO4 on the tank and got a 0. I was told this might be as a result of silicates or old bulbs. I use an RO DI and my bulbs are comming up on a year. The only time I remember having a problem like this was at the begining of the tank but then the film was light brown. What gives?? has any one tried phospho sorb pads for silicate removal??

You can try the phosphate sponge or decrease the amount you feed. I have also found that excessive heat can trigger an outbreak as well. How is your water circulation?

I have a similar brown film on my center LR. I did have a PHOS problem but I have been running phos-ban and phos guard. I just finished testing and all seems to be back to normal but I cant seem to get rid of this nasty brown stuff. If this thread doesn't produce any good suggestions I'm gonna scrub it with a toothbrush... I'll let you know if that works

I used algone and it helped my tanks get rid of it. Every5 days I would add new pouches along with coral lifes marine tank clarifier and they worked really well
