What do you do with newly acquired infected acros?

Just curious what everyone does if they find newly acquired acros to be infected with various pests? For example, I bought some acros from someone in my area getting out of the hobby and while doing a TMPCC dip found tons of AEFW come off the coral. I did not want to take the risk so I tossed the corals, better than potentially infecting everything in my tank.

What does everyone else do?

i believe the best way is to quarantine specimens, and treat for pests, make sure they are all safe before putting them into the display.

I've tossed a frag before after discovering that it had redbugs. Its just not worth the risk to the rest of the tank IMO. Most of the qt and treatment practices are not 100% effective and you're bound to miss a few pests, so its just not worth it.

Agreed with hatfielj, and depending on what it's infected with. I'd be more likely to treat a redbug infested acro with interceptor and place it in the display than one with AEFW. I'm not set up with a full QT outfit. So If I can't treat in 6 or 8 hours, out it goes. Just not worth the risk. JMO.

I only accept and seek frags from local reefers whose tanks I know and can see. I keep a tank with interceptor and now treat everything I get for 12 hours in the interceptor tank and qt for a week before it goes in the display. I don't buy LFS corals any more and the last frags I got online were redbug infested.

The investments we have in our livestock are just too great to risk. I learned my lesson and taking every acro out of my tank and treating it and qt'ing for 10 days was not fun. I don't want to do that again.

chucking frags with redbugs is such a waste. Theyre SO easy to cure.

AEFW on the other hand, I have no problem with people chucking.

I've moved stuff from my dad's 90 that has redbugs into mine just by doing a long dip in interceptor. Haven't had any outbreaks in my 29g tank with that method.
