Royal Gramma food

what is a royal gramma's favorite food? getting one in a couple days, and it is probably a good idea to know what food it will and won't eat

Dont have one myself, but from liveaquaria:

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p....cfm?pCatId=53

Frozen mysis seem to be a good bet.

Mine would pretty much eat everything and anything that floats his way. Flakes, brine, mysis, prime reef to blood worms. A good variety is always good.

Yeah for such a cheap fish a royal gramma is a steal

its just a great looking fish and is very hardy, mine has become a real fatass over the past months

It eats like a grouper is easiest way to describe it, will stuff his face with anything meaty u put in there. Enriched frozen foods, flakes, etc.

its greedy will eat way beyond being full...

Mine will only eat green and yellow flake food. Won't take any other color or any other foods.

Mine eats everything, including pellets and flake. They have quite a lot of character and aren't shy. I have 5 other fish and sometimes if he's unhappy with one and it gets too close it opens its mouth extremely wide like the roundness of a pencil. Very interesting to see, it's normal though, read it in a book.

My gramma is almost a hermit and only comes out to eat. I sometimes don't see it for days. Does anyone else have a timid gramma? I never see it harrassed by other fish but I guess it could be happening when I'm not around. I've had it about 4 months so maybe it's kind of small and will grow out of it.

what else do you have in the tank with the gramma? what size tank is it in?

grammas are super hardy fish so if there is nothing stressing it out and its a healthy, i would assume it's fine. maybe its just got a shy personality or likes its cave. I've had a few royal grammas over my career, usually they wouldnt hide much at all, seemed to like attention. i currently have a fish-only tank well stocked with hiding places and he only goes into them when its bedtime. Mine is a mature size, fat like a grouper.

i dont think shy is a rare tendency for basslets

My gramma is in a 125g with a hippo tang, lemonpeel angel, a pair of clowns and a heniochus butterfly. I haven't seen any aggressive behavior. All of the other fish are fat and healthy.
