Bought frags from SPStoner

Just received my frag pack from SPStoner this morning, he is as professional as the best of the best internet sites. Communication was first rate from start to finish, the package was perfect, labeled and bagged very well, and a free frag to boot. The real story though is the frag quality, they are exactly as shown in his pictures, first rate. After my lights came on in the tank after unpacking them, they literally burst into their full color. Very impressed, thanks Tony, for every bad vendor, one Tony more then makes up for it.

That is awesome info and good to hear as I was in that website today looking at the frags etc. You cringe when you go to order anything online because of many things! Is it going to be alive? Is it what I ordered? Is their going to be good communication and reliability? You get the picture... Thanks fo the input! I'll have to give it some more thought in purchasing some nice corals from SPStoner.

All my frags are happy and doing great, full polyp extension just a few hours after putting them in my tanks, and the colors are exactly like in the pictures. The only thing I'd wish for would be bigger frags, but thats the way they are sold, his are actually bigger then other places so that's the market.

Yeah, alot of frags are the size of a quarter. 1' to 1.5" is the norm but you are able to save alittle money doing it that way. Plus, in time they will grow bigger, and then you can frag as well with the piece you initially purchased as a frag...I love the different Montipora frags especially!!!!!Beautiful vivid colors

Hey Guys. Thanks for the kind words. I do my best to only send out the most colorful, healthiest frags. I will have to agree with you on frag sizes. I always send out the largest frags I can. Unfortunately, they are not always "jumbo" sized The faster growing corals will usually result in larger frags because I know it will replenish itself quicker. But I have the same issue when I purchase frags. It seems the only places that have really big frags, are those that are just chopping up wild colonies, or are rescuing dying colonies.. For me, though, these have a pretty dismal survival rate. I've had the best success in acquiring captive grown stuff through sale or trade with other reefers.

Please keep me posted on how the frags do, and post pictures here if you can.

Thanks,

Tony

As I posted on the original thread, after acclimating the frag for a few days I mounted them on small pieces of live rock. They took the handling well and are back to full color and full polyp extension after an hour back in the tank. They are very robust and colorful SPS corals, just beautiful and even the frags have brilliant color and amazingly lush polyps. As I've said before, I buy again in a heartbeat, if I had the room.....

What kind of lighting do you use? And how much light per gallon? I am planning on getting ametal halide fixture for my 125 gallon tank with (3) 250watt halides and (2) 150 watt halides. I don't know if they are going to be strong enough for the awesome Montiporas shown in SPStoner or not. Alot of suppliers use 400watt or 1000watt halides.

I have the frags in a 30 gallon cube right now under 150 watt MH using a Phoenix 14K DE bulb and a 10 hour cycle. I don't have the time or money for the monster setups SPStoner and others have, although I greatly admire them. I'd have one myself if it wasn't for one little problem.........a wife!

Nothing wrong with your setup, NYReef.

LOL. I'm married too, man. The only reason I have what I have is that I work in the pet industry. My job allows me to get some pretty great deals on equipment and stuff. otherwise, there's no way I could afford this hobby, and even if I could, my wife wouldn't let me

As for lighting, I find the Phoenix 14K to be one of the best bulbs out there. I've tried a number of different bulbs, and IMO, this one gives the best compromise between intensity and color.

SPStoner(Tony), I am planning on purchasing some coral from you as soon as I move and upgrade from a 75 gallon tank to a 125. Are your corals under 250watt, 400watt or 1000watt halides?
If I had roughly 1000watts of halide/pc lighting, would I be able to keep the many types of Acropora and Montiporas you offer? I don't want to lose the brilliant colors portrayed by the different corals!!!!!thanks in advance!Tom

Tony,
As I stated in my PM to you- these corals are amazing! The frag sizes you sent me were actually a little bigger than I anticipated. And within a couple hours, PE is incredible, as is the color. I was excited to get the superman monti, but when I saw everything else- especially the blue polyp cap(what a bonus!)- I like em all. Great deal, professional packaging; i will DEFINITELY be buying from you again in the future...especially when my I get a big bonus next year and my wife allows me to upgrade to a 250gal + a frag tank.

Thanks again!
