Chiller Recommendations? Pls. Advise.
What chiller would you recommend for a
315 gallon with 3- 400Watt halides and 4- 110W VHO Currently I am running a 20inch box fan and it is keeping the temp at 81 when the lights are off and at 83.4-84 when the lights are on. I run my lights at night when the house temp. is lower. The house temp in the summer is about 68 degrees, but I have a wall of windows and light comes pours in the afternoon thus making the house warmer. During the winter the house temp is about 72 degrees. TIA. Troy |

Having been in Beaufort in the summertime you will need more chiller than what charts say.In a dry place a 1/2 hp would work.If you would like to have your chiller come on ,bring the temp down a degree and not run long then I would suggest a 1 hp in 220 volts from Pacific Coast Imports. It will be around $1,000.You will want to have the chiller outside in a porch, garage or somewhere so the heat exchange is not in your house.Still run fans to move air around your tank for what evaporative cooling you can get so the chiller does not run as much.

Depends on how many degrees you want to lower the temperature. What are you 'shooting for' temperature-wise? or, how many degrees do you want to lower the water temperature?
I use a 1 hp industrial made chiller. American made it conforms to American Code and standards. It is more expensive than those that are imported that use lighter wiring and cheaper components. But, for 650 gallons I want to lower the temperature by 15F. So the size of the chiller is related to volume of water and how many degrees you want to lower the temperature. You might want to check out 'How to Size a Chiller' at the JBJ site. The sizing guide is at this address: http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod_chiller_size.asp Good luck! |
