GBTA split musings
So I've had a GBTA for over 3 years now with a pair of Maroons hosting in it. This spring it had grown quite large, maybe to about a foot in diameter. The thing never split so I assumed I had the non-cloning kind. This summer I was away on business for about 2 months and so the anemone did not get fed directly, but the clowns always bring some food to it. During my absence the power went out for about a day and the temp went to 100 degrees and the anemone bleached badly. I came home in August and thought it was gone for sure. All limp and hidden from the light; only about 3 inches across at this point.
Massive water change and some extra attention and it seemed to look a little better. Just to help it along I thought I would feed heavily. Every day it gets a healthy dose of Prime Reef, mysis, or squid. Green color back after about 3-4 weeks and it is now maybe 4-5 inches across again looking much better. Now all of a sudden IT SPLITS! Same light, same tank what had changed? Do you think frequency of feeding has to do with splitting? Maybe if I feed less frequently it would just grow again? thoughts? |

But the weird thing is that this is a good 5-6 weeks after the major stress! He was recovering nicely and then split. Both halves look strong and healthy, just one of them is a little in the shadow. I assume he will move into the light when he is ready.

Maybe too weak to split when the original stress occurred? Unfortunately, we don't know everything about nem's cloning triggers.
