I have read here on RC that Finnex seems to have the best reputation. I use two 200W heaters on my 240 so if one fails, the other will be able to heat the tank and if the thermostat on one stuck on, then it would take longer for a 200W to cook the tank than one 400W.

I use one Finnex and one Won (also Titanium). I like the Won because it has a separate temp sensor that can be placed away from the heater and it also has a bright digital readout of the current tank temp. I rely on my controller display mostly, but it is comforting to see two readouts within a degree or so to know nothing is wacky.

I am seriously considering a Ranco dual temp controller ... one side for the fan for the hood/sump and the other side for the heaters

I have 300W X 2 ebo jagers and they work quite well on a 270G reeftank

I have used a ranco single stage controller for over a year now and love it. I have 2 titanium heaters attached to it. It's pretty easy to set and works great. Ranco also makes a dual controller that you may want to look at to control your heaters, chillers, fans........

There is unrest in the reef, There is trouble with the corals, for the lps want more sunlight And the sps ignore their pleas....The trouble with the LPS,(And they're quite convinced they're right) They say the SPS are just too lofty And they grab up all the light. But the SPS can't help their feelings If they like the way they're made. And they wonder why the LPS Can't be happy in their shade..So the LPS formed a union And demanded equal rights. "The SPS are just too greedy; We will make them give us light." Now there's no more SPS oppression, For they passed a noble law, And the Corals are all kept equal By Reefer.. frag.. and saw.

I run 3- 300w titanium heaters. One reason I did it this way is just in case one happens to stay on for some reason it would take a lot longer to do any damage as it would only be 300w. I also agree that it needs to be on a seperate controller- either a ranco or something like an aquacontroller. I also have heaters with built in controllers and I just set that temp about 2 degress warmer than my contoller shut off temp just to be safe. Of course being in AZ we only need them for a short period of time and I will be removing them soon and won't have to put them back in till October.

I like to run 3 400 watt heaters set just above my controller. For example my controller is at 80 and my heaters are at 82. That way if the controller stickers they max out at 82, or if a heater breaks I have extra capacity.

Not made anymore.

I found one used that needs some major TLC. But I hope I can
refurbish it and use it on my system. If the heating elements
are still good, I'll bypass the thermostat and use an external
controller.
