Here's my clam collection. I also have a Squamosa, but unfortunately no pics. Sounds like tomorrows project.

I would say that a derasa clam would be the best begginer clam. as for a GREAT source for info check out www.clamsdirect.com

Oh yeah, also I saw something about not running a skimmer 24/7 when you have a clam (on clamsdirect forums). Is that really suggested????

squamosa deresa and H. hippopus are the best beginner clams

the skimmer should be shut off for an hour after adding phyto i think that is what your talking about

here are pics of my 3 h. hippopus clams

they are in a 10g with 40watts of pc over them(10000k actinic 50/50 bulb) and the tank is skimmerless

srry about quality

First attempt at adding a picture. This is my success story, unfortunately this is my third try at a clam. I have since found my problem of why I could not succesfully keep a clam and now this guy is very healthy, and has been for a couple months.

Here is to many more months!

Here is a pic of my Squamosa and Gold Teardrop Maxima. I have had the squamosa for about 2.5 years and has grown from a 3" to about 7". The Maxima is new.

Here's my clam update...

Two new tear drop maximas I bought a week ago. As for scale, biggest maxima is 7" and the big green striped crocea (view from above) is about 6".

BTW, I just found out my tank has pyramid snails. So far, not an outbreak; my sixline wrasse may have kept it in check, but the poor guy vanished almost 2 weeks ago.
