Meeting ideas for next year

As we get closer to 2007 I thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone had ideas for meeting speakers and/or field trips.

So far the potential list includes:
Miami Sea Aquarium
Coral Prop
Frag Swaps
Bowling for Fish
Club Picnic
Dive Trips
Collection Trips
ORA

Anything else you guys would like to see?

Very cool,
I've been certified since I was 13 and haven't been out on a dive in years. Would really look forward to a dive trip and a few people to go with. I'm in when do we start planning?

A couple other ideas I have thought about are:

Store Hop...same as fish hop but to stores. Each store interested would pay $100 or so to help cover the bus. The members would have liitle or no cost for the day.

Reef Tour...this would be an "open house" day. The Fish Hops are really fun, but we don't get to see the "normal" tanks in the club. If we posted a spreadsheet which gave addresses, tank description, and available hours club members could drive around and see everyone's tanks.

Good ideas or bad?

Our normal meetings are on Tuesdays, but we have many activities on the weekends including frags swaps, fish hops, and dive trips. If there is enough interest we could consider a weekend meeting.

Maybe we can have a dinner night where we all just get together and have dinner at moonlight diner or something and talk tanks? I hardly ever get enough one on one time with other reefers to ask all my follow up questions and ask technical stuff.

Dinner would be nice. I think the dive trips, frag swaps, fish hops, etc. are a great opportunity to talk tanks and just have time to hang out with other club member.

I like dinner too, during the meetings there is so much going on that I haven't really gotten much of a chance to meet and talk to many members.

Man, I would love to do that too. I am very interested to see how that aquarium plans to keep the whale sharks long term. I am sure we could put something together. Carpool up, get a good hotel rate, go to the aquarium, find some good food. Sound like what you were thinking? I thought about a bus, but I just don't think we could come anywhere close to filling it up for a trip like that.

PBMAS recently did a tour at ORA and Seahorse Source in Ft. Pierce, and it was fantastic...Everybody had a great time! It would be a bit of a drive for you guys, but well worth it, I assure you. Their facility is incredible, and it was wild to see the tiny 1-day-old maroon clowns and the coral grow-outs.

I coordinated the PBMAS tour, so if anyone wants contact names and numbers, please feel free to PM me.

Yea that about sums it up we could probably rent a van depending on how many people would committ to going and make a real field trip out of it.
