How much light (wattage) does macro need to survive?

obviously in addition to proper nutrients in water...

I like about 4-5 w/gal of PC's at 30-40cm depth.
Having more is fine also.

Many get away with less, 2w/gal etc.
Depends on the species, want you want, the total biomass used, and also on the rate of growth/main tank loading rates of N and P etc(among other things).

Ok are we talking for a Fuge, or the main tank? Thats a very important piece left out of your question.

If main tank Above is "desirable" (4 to 5 watts per gal). I have heard the minimum is approx 3watts per gal, but that is totally dependent on depth of tank.

Foir the Fuge, I believe u can get away with less wattage, plus U can use Hardware store Purchased Bulbs
