find out which products you want first.
buy the best you can afford....keeping in mind you will probably be making another pricey purchase in the near future.

adrian...
i want to say that the people who are responding to your posts are trying to help you, so even if it feels a little like they, or i for that matter, tell you things that sound cruel or insulting, that is far from the intention. i myself have been researching saltwater and reef tanks for quite some time now, and i am still a few months away at best from setting up my first tank. i would like to offer my advice, which you can do what you will with.

1. remove all your fish. see about returning them to the store you got them at in exchange for store credit.

2. read
3. read
4. read
5. read
6. funkiereefjunkie gave great books to read also.
i might suggest starting with the waterkeeper series, which is #3.
i am not sure if you have ever had a fish tank before, but if not, you need to learn what the nitrogen cycle is, and how to initiate it in an aquarium. this is essential knowledge.

my best recommendation to you would be to basically start over. get the fish out, swap out the crushed coral for aragonite sand, get a lot more live rock, pick up a skimmer, hang on style if you dont do a sump, get some good lighting, get all your equipment running, get your parameters right, and cycle the tank properly. be aware that this can take a lot longer than you may want to wait. the upside is you will have plenty of time to do all the homework i just assigned!

my final piece of advice is to keep making posts here, and allow these fine folks to give you the guidance that comes from experience. i hope that you enjoy great success with this hobby. patience on your part will result in a lifetime of joy. best of luck to you.

edit: i am not sure where in south florida you are, but here's a list of LFS i found. ( I'm moving to Tampa later this year, so i have been looking for some myself)

this thread makes me laugh.........this kid is a fish assassin...i mean…really…EVERYTHING in that tank is going to die...seriously, what are you doing? i understand that YOU'RE just a kid, but i'm sorry i can't help but look out for the animals you're basically slaughtering

also a semantic issue.....”their” is possessive, meaning "that is their house"...”they're”, means THEY ARE...there is something different, like "hey look over there"……i'm sorry this just makes me sad to be a middle school teacher in Fl.....HAD to chime in

ok, so you need to take the livestock back, and get store credit. you will want to do this right the first time, so that you don't get discouraged. I am currently PLANNING my 120g reef. I don't anticipate adding water to the tank to start the cycle until july or Aug. Slow down, read and post your questions here on RC. This is the best most informative group of people who have made mistakes and don't want others to make the same mistakes. you will want to invest in at least these items before cycling the tank again...

Skimmer - in sump or HOB
Live Sand - sand, not CC
Live Rock or Base Rock - you can get 50# of base rock from Marco Rocks or buy at least 30# of live rock. This can be uncured, and will cure during the cycle.
Good test kit, and refractometer, not a swing hydrometer
you should also look into a few decent powerheads.
Start looking at lights. either PC or MH.

look around your local classifieds and the local reef club here on RC. you might be able to get good deals from your LFS by being a member of the Local reef club.

come on now, lets not pick on the kid.

If you're going to help lets be nice about it.

I've read a few rude comments on the page

Its true some mistakes were made, but who hasn't made mistakes!

wowowowow

wow adrianne, you really need to slow down. I think you might have just created a new endangered species. You should not be adding that many fish to such a new and uncycled tank. Please do some reading and also start posting some more SERIOUS and helpful questions. If you continue on this route......your tank will become a huge disaster!
