I'd be happy if they just replace it with a new model - then you can help us get the skimmer problem solved!

I just got off the phone with the supplier. He basically said that he bought ten on a skid, and that mine is the only one that has had a reported problem, outside of a T5 tube broken in transit.

Having said that, I was pretty clear about my concerns and expectations, and he will be talking to Red Sea tomorrow about this. I'll get a call back tomorrow night.

As far as a new model...

Basically when Pinky told me that she couldn't help me since it was an early model, that pretty much sealed my desire to own any Red Sea product. Their initial support was helpful, but when it got down to brass tacks they hung me out to dry.

They have lost a customer.

I just meant that a new one would be better than no resolution at all. I have a feeling something decent has to come out of this. It's not the same as you buying the tank last year - it's new and should have been the newer version. Under those conditions a replacement with the new version is better than being stuck with what you have.

Agreed in that respect. I've just been a bit soured by the experience...

I'm sorry to hear that some are having trouble with this system. I am looking into purchasing this system, but now i'm having second thoughts.

Do you have any information on build dates? When was the newest version built, and is there any way for the consumer to find out before purchasing from an online retailer?

Thanks

The only update at the moment:

Pricing on 90g and 120g tanks has begun in anticipation of returning or selling this hunk o' junk.

WOW

This is my first forum thread on RC to read and man... it's addicting. I spent the past two days dazing out of class to follow the epic journey you've been on.

It began so optimistically, full of hope and joy.

Now, despair.

Don't give up. Fight the good fight. Stick it to the man.

Make sure you include the Better Business Bureau in all of your work.

Keep us updated!

Ladies and gentlemen, once again, I shall declare:

VICTORY

Got a call back from the LFS. The owner just read the letter, and has agreed to issue a full store credit for the tank as-is (no box, etc) in the interests of good customer service.

I have too cook my live rock until the basement is done now (ugh) but it's a more than fair response from the LFS.

So, anyone in Winnipeg, remember that Fish Gallery on Main Street is a fair dealer, and that's more than you can say for a lot of merchants regardless of what they sell.

I'll move the rock into cooking tubs this weekend, and likely return the tank on Tuesday. With that, I'm afraid that this reef log is pretty much done. Thanks to those that have read it and provided their experience and insight. I hope you've enjoyed it.

Coming soon! WinnipegDragon's 'What equipment should I buy?' post, followed by 'Reef Log 2: Electric Boogaloo!' in a few months.

Cheers!

Great news WD! I had a feeling your whole bad experience would have a good ending. Too bad you can't get reimbursed for the time & effort you spent, but take what you got & run with it! I'll be looking for your new posts!

WD - We'll have to co-author the new thread entitled, "RSM Converts" or "What I shoulda done the first time" in the spirit of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I'll post a link to my 92 gallon build once I get started.

Where about's on Main are they located? North end or more downtown?? Have you ever tried the fish emporium on Henderson by Hespeller?

I used to live in the Peg.

Good luck with your future endeavors!

Fish Emporium? Nope, never tried there.

I mostly go into Bird Shops and Aquariums on Main, Saltwater Connection on Henderson and Fish Gallery also on Main.

Why are all the fish stores in that three or four block area?

Okay, I've done my specs on the 90g and 120g and I'm looking for more advice. It's a new thread though, so it's time to let this behemoth of a thread pass on and fade away...
