MIXED reef help???????

i've tried the search function but it never works so here is my question

i've been reading lots on RC and i can't decide what reef i want. Is a mixed reef possible with all corals. i really like SPS,ZOA's,softies and RIC's,mushies. i want to know if i can keep them all succesfully or what corals cant be mixed. i'm worried about chemicals, stinging and fighting. should i put carbon or anything else in the water to help? thanks

You can do a mixed reef with about anything. You just need to know what types of corals need in terms of light and water flow. You can mix some sps together next to each other but don't mix sps next to mushrooms or something like that. If you keep sps next to sps and softies next to softies and so on, you will be fine. You don't want to put unlike types of corals right next to each other becuase they may sting each other. Try to keep unlike corals about 6 inches apart to avoid stinging and allow for growth. I hope this helps.

As for carbon, it is a split jury. I like using carbon in my reef, but others will tell you why you shouldn't......

Good luck,
Jeff
