Can Xenia be added to a cycling tank?

Why would you want to? is the first question that comes to mind. I can say that my 'hitchhiker' pumping xenia survived the cycle---came in on live rock, took a little damage, but then I had VERY live rock, coralline, the whole nine yards. Only now (after 3 mos.) taking off. If the story is that you have a chance to get a neat specimen for free, ask them to hold it for you or ask the lfs you plan to deal with if they can do it as a favor to a potential saltwater customer.

You know the problem is I have to get it through my head that coral are alive in a different way then plants. Im into planted FW tanks, where its actually advisable to start adding plants during the cycle.

I so freshwater and I have never heard of being advised to add plants during a cycle.
but no on the xenia.

I added Xenia to my cycling 125g as a test
Sort of like the canary in a coal mine
I wanted to make sure it was "safe" for my other corals

I got xenia as a tagalong on both of my tanks and it has survived... wait.. thrived during both of their cycles.
