Help - Symbiotic Clam Shrimp?
I have a new 3.5" squamosa clam that I was looking closely at the other day. For the first time, I noticed a tiny shrimp INSIDE the clam's intake valve! It didn't seem to be doing any damage, but I've never heard of a cleaner shrimp that lives inside a clam. I'm thinking it's a bad hitchiker? The shrimp is only a few millimeters long and has black spots all over it.
Any ideas? |

I saw a shrimp living in my maxima a while ago. It was about .75" from head to tail and completely clear except it was covered in red dots. Never found out what it was though.

There is a shrimp that has a symbiotic relationship with clams. They are probably Priclemenes sp. but there isnt too much information about them on the net. It is because they come out of the clam very rarely if not never. They are transparent and covered with dots. You can find pictures if you search the forum. No damage has been witnessed yet by them to clams according what I read.
I have always thought that symbiotic relationships are the main things that makes a reef perfect. Good Luck!
