Are you talking about setting up a closed loop? In a 55 I think you would do well with something in the 1200-1500 gph range. Look for something by sequence, blueline, or iwaki.

The "how many of them" comment kind of threw me for a loop as to whether or not you're talking about a closed loop.

If your into sps I would go with a tunze 6000 or 6100 on a controller. Either would cost more than $250.I belive the 6000 with controller is around $320.

If your into LPS/Softies I would add a couple more MJ on a wavemaker. Seio is ok I guess. I like wave action and the seio cant do that...

i was thinking about a simple idea for max flow. i was thinking of mounting a pump to the back of my canopy (few inches above water level) having a 6 inch line from the inlet to a few inches under the surface of the display. then having a return line "T"ed off and ran to the corners of the tank. sound dumb or would it work out the way im picturing it?

Tunze 6000...

I would go with a Tunze 6000... For your 55gal you would prob have to dial it down a little but I think you will love it...

that was actually one of the options i was strongly considering. i ran into lack of knowledge about tunze though. if i were to buy a single tunze 6000 with a 7071 single controller what other adapters and extras would i really need to make it a worth while investment.

The only other thing you might want is a tunze magnet to mount it on. Its not needed but nice.

I agree, I own 5 sets of Tunzes (10 in total) and I have a 6200.50 (the largerest) magnet for each one of them... The only way to mount them...
