I think it best to clarify why fish jump; it is a defensive move to escape predators or harassing bullies. The jumper will break to the side removing itself from a direct line of attack; in a tank that is usually a fatal mistake as the jumper will often land on the floor.

Because fish have the ability to detect electrical current in the water any stray voltage can deceive your livestock into believing there are larger predators about; numerous other factors can frighten fish such as activity outside the tank (small children running past) or lights being randomly turned off or on.

If you keep passive compatible species and the equipment maintained properly, jumping won't be a problem.

I'm on my 3rd orange spotted Goby now. It seems to be the most jumping Goby to me. So, I got wedding vale and wrapped it around my eggcrate, so next time one jumps there's no possibility.

As for least likely, my watchman goby has never attempted the entire time I've had him.

Yea my orange spot jumped as well, we didn't have a top so that's our fault. I went the glass route, as I don't have a canopy either, and the egg crate reflected too much, killing the eyes. He never even went near the top, someone must have scared the crap out of him one night, because we found him dead on the floor in the morning.

i lost a firefish to the carpet. no surprise there tho, he was badly bullied by my clowns. i have a neon goby and would be shocked if he ever jumped. i also have a yellow watchman in the other tank and doubt he'd ever jump as well.
