OT: Tent trailer

Anyone own one of these pop up tent trailers? I'm having some thoughts about buying a decent pre-owned one. My back just aren't what they used to be.

Thoughts?

Hardly get to use mine anymore, but when we do we love it. I have friends who use theirs all the time and love it. We use to tent and this is so easy and comfortable

I have a little Jayco with an 8' box -- it's ok for the wife and two little ones, but I'd love more space. Just my opinion on a couple of items...

3-way fridge -- great to have, more cooling w/out the ice
furnace -- if you do any dry camping, it's great -- if you are in a campground, then just buy those little ceramic heaters.

To do it again, I'd go with a 10 or 12 foot box, more space is always great. I'd also do the shower/potti combo as well...we have a porta potti for the ladies to use and a little shower tent and a Colman instant water heater for the shower...they work, but just more things to set up.....

Hope that helps!

Terry

So a 1996 12' Jayco pop top fell into my lap (OUCH) at a ridiculously low price and it is in near-perfect shape, so I'm buying it. It doesn't have te full list of luxuries you mentioned, Terry, but it'll be a good first go to see how often I use it, etc... Can't wait to use it!

Thanks to all for the thoughts--they helped!

If I lived near or in Flag, I'd have one too

What's everyone's favorite place to camp in the area?

Lockett Meadow is nice if you don't mind being around so many people. I always love heading way down Woody Mtn Road towards the Rim. Lots of amazing scenery and wildlife, and outside of hunting season, nary a soul will you encounter.

Congrats on the purchase Sumner.

I just got back from a week up at Big Lake in the white mountains. I stayed in a tent but 2 of my buddies had pop-ups. I'm looking for one now too. Nice thing too is you can store it in your back yard without being above the fence, if you have an HOA that won't allow you to park a full size camper.

Thanks Mark. You are correct about Woody Mountain Road--one of the best places to go with no other people to bother you, and everyone seems to go other places.

Azmarine, I don't recall offhand, but I do know that there are places you can rent the popups--the rentals are pretty reasonably priced.

I bought mine off of craigslist--this is the time of year to buy with the winter coming. I'll put up a pic or two when I can.
