I started with eleven and it dropped to 8 fairly quickly and I have had the same 8 for about 3 months now. Not much time in the scheme of things. They have a voracious appetite and swarm my fingers at feeding time. Mine actually school with 3 hippos but I think as the hippos grow that will probably change.

What I cannot undestand is why mine have not grown at all. They are still quite small while all the other fish have doubled or even tripled in size in the same amount of time. I have seen large ones in another reefers tank, but only once.

How big do they get, and is there a "dwarf" variety?

I ran about 7, so long as I had the blue velvet damsel to serve as the devil. If there's no devil, the chromis aren't motivated to school and will nip each other.

Well, I have been debating about putting a very large school of small fish in my display, but I am seriously thinking it won't be these. My LFS suggested blue reef chromis, but I have no idea what their behavior is like.

I figure losing 4 in a year's time is better than average though.

Mine is relatively good natured and yes she does move some things around. But most of the time she just sits by her lil buddy but she does dislike my cats eye polyps wont leave them alone. Its kinda funny keeps things interesting in the tank found a couple of diff places that polyps seem happy. And since she is about 3 to 4 inches long she is a bully to those poor lil polyps

My maroon, Queen Isabella, took about 30g of space for her own - no corals allowed! She made sure there was plenty of room for her beloved anemones And she made sure Mr. Queen Isabella shared in the work

they are mean fish...mine permits all other fish to be near the anemones except for the blue sided Scott's fairy wrasse. She will chase that one with extreme prejudice. In fact I watched my Foxface Lo swim right through a GBTA's tentacles last night with no reaction to the anemone's sting, even though I could clearly see them touching.

I have always stayed away from green chromis I think they are awesome when in a school but I have always heard they die off fast? When I get the 360 up and running I might try 12 or so.

I started with 6 blue/green chromis a few months ago, and now have 2... They spawn all the time, but it is not as fun having just 2. And I dont think they would let me add more, so im stuck. Next time im going with anthias.

I bought 3 initially and lost 2 a couple of days later (they did not do well from the start), then I got 6 more and lost one because my yellow wrasse thought it was dinner time and snagged one and spat him out (died the next day). Since then I had 5 left and still have them. A pair engage in lip-locking now and then. They hardly school anymore except when my sargeant major (who, BTW, eats hair algae and nori!) chases anyone of them or when I am cleaning the tank. They are fed 2-3 times daily with cyclop-eze and an occasional fish flakes treat. I like seeing them dart all over the place when feeding and re-group when threatened. I think they do not school when they get comfortable in the tank but they do so when there is a threat such as my routine cleaning and a chase from the sargeant. (No way do I consider 3 months a success, but my 5 seem to be thriving/growing so far).
