lol I was 50/50 about buying the same fish at the same size today for 40$'s. I am pretty sure its a McCosker's flasher as well and it was about the same size. The colors are great even on the little ones.

filament and carpenters are different species. Both, however, have multiple dorsal spines, not just one like for McCoskers.

what makes wrasses jumpy...? i have an open top aquarium right now and it's kinda worrying me... i'm thinking of getting some egg crates but i'm not sure if it's going to prevent this little fish from going through...

It won't, especially if the fish is only about 1" long.

That one is tough to identify because it is just a baby. Looks like you got yourself a nice fish tho :-)

Flashers are often difficult to identify and there is much variability between and across species. All of that genetic material gets mixed up pretty thoroughly above the reef and many species are being reevaluated as hybrids rather than species in their own right.

The jumping issue has been done to death - but flashers WILL jump. The most recent discussion that I know of starts
here
and includes a happy ending and a good (probably the best) solution. And the very important observation that eggcrate does not work.

Enjoy your fish, and give him the best accommodation you can :-)
