"missing maxima"
Well i woke up this morning and my 2 1/2" maxima clam (aqua cultured) was not in its shell. Water tests as follows:
Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 3 SG: 1.025 KH: 9 Cal: 380 I'm either assuming that it died of natural causes and was eaten by my shrimp/Bristleworms after death or that there was some sort of predator in the tank that decided to eat it. I've had this clam for about 5 months and it has always seemed to be fine. In checking the tank last night before lights out everything seemed fine. i can still see a part of its foot attached to the rocks behind the shell. Lighting over the tank (50B) is 2 150w MH. The clam was positioned on the rocks about 1/2 way up the rocks. I also have a deresa and crocea in the sand which are doing great and exhibiting great growth. Should I be on the lookout for predators. As i said before the clam did not appear to have any sort of disease. anyone have any ideas? PS i feed daily with phytofeast so i'm sure it wasn't starving. |

maybe a hidden crab, try setting up a trap at night and see what you catch.

clams quite often look fine right up until they die and if you have a good sized clean up crew they can make short work of the remains.
