Possible Maxima problem

I have had two 5 inch healthy maxima for quite awhile. They were both just barely attached to some small peices of live rock rubble but today I accidently pulled one off the peice. There was a white, stringy material left on the rock and the clam did not have full entesion for about two hours. Should I be concerned that the clam was seriously damaged?
