Clam Color Question
I have had a large clam for about 2 years. Its about 6" to 7" long. I purchased the clam from a guy breaking down his tank. He sits mid lower under a 250watt MH and has gotten larger and seems to be thriving. My question is his color is a drab brown / black with a tiny hint of blue in the center. Would raising him up more under the light help bring out color? Does more light = more color.
Thanks |

Yes, kinda. There is a lot more to it, though. In general, the brighter lights support better colors. However, clams can lose there color for many reasons, so if one of these is amiss (ie- salinity issues, temp swing, etc), it wont color up even under the brightest lights.

sorry for the delay on a reply. Like I said I purchased this clam 2 years ago from someone local that was breaking down there tank. Its big and I think its a crocea. Its all black with just a tiny bit of blue, its colors have been the same since I got it.
My bulbs new Hamilton 15K replaced in December. The tank is 5 years old and the water conditions are good. Alk 8, PH 8.2, Cal 420. Temp is steady at 79. I guess my question was if you add more light does a clams colors increase. Thanks A |
