150w DE MH with 18" tank depth?

Wondering how clams would fare on the sandbed with a 150w DE Metal Halide over an 18" deep tank.

Thanks!

Should be fine; assuming your tank isn't too long-

The clams would be centered under the halide.

After some math, sand bed height and overflow, looks like there will only be 12" of actual water that the light must penetrate in the 18" high tank.

That should be fine with a 150w DE above it.

Scratch that...bump.

There is indeed a full 18 inches of water depth between the surface and the sandbed.

I added a 24w 10K PC bulb for a bit more whiteness to the 14K phoenix.

Still wanting to keep a clam close to the bottom.

Anyone?

I think you would be fine with a most every type of clam except a crocea.

Sorry I have to disagree I have pretty much the same set up 150/W DE 10k M/H with 2x24w T5s and I have grown my crocea from 2.5in to 5 in about 2 years. I think you will be fine I.M.O .

Let me point out my clams are not on the sand bed they have attached themselves to the rock work about half way up the tank.

Beautiful looking clam! And very good point--that being your clams are closer to the lights.

Thanks SPS, I think if Rhinecanthus is going to keep them on the bottom your better off going with a squamosa or derasa. If you want to move them up closer to the light then you could consider a maxima or crocea.

You should be fine with that light. If you do notice that your clams are starting to look dull, i would move them higher up in your rockwork.

So heres the deal.

Crocea went about half way up and a squamosa for the bottom!
