how remove maxima clam from rock

how do I safely remove maxima clam from rock. I am going to "cook" the rock to help get rid of algae and need to get the clam off the rock

there're a few ways i've used with success. if you can reach the byssal threads you can cut as far away from clam as possible wit a sharp razor blade. Failing that a slow constant pressure can work to get tehm to release, like turn the rock on its side or upside down with the clam haning. Usually in a few days they'll release or get loose enough for you to cut.

I've also heard, but not tried, of pulling gently up on the clam for an hour or so until they release. makes me nervous though...
