Best way to transfer VHS to DVD?

Should I use a standalone recorder or capture device + computer? I have about 25 tapes to transfer.

My only requirement is to be able to divide my DVD into chapters. If I use a capture device, it has to be USB compatible.

If you need to do chapters, then I think you'll have to use a capture device plus a computer and DVD authoring software. You'll need to re-author each captured tape to put your chapter markers in. I don't envy you...25 tapes is a lot of work, especially if you need to re-author each one of them.

You have described the reason I bought an Apple. I got tired of my Windows machines crashing every time they started to render the files for transfer to dvd. On my MacBook it worked the first time.

Same here Brian. Rendering, even on my Mac Mini, actually works.

You could get something like this for $37.99. It's out of stock here but it gives you an idea.

ADS USB 2.0 DVD Xpress (VHS to DVD/VCD Converter)
