half back angel is nippin on my corals
what should i do?? i even put a net over my clams already

I don't think there is an answer you would like (that will get it to stop nipping) - you may have to remove it (sell back to store, give to friend, trade at reef club, etc). I had a flameback angel that was gorgeous, but nipped at everything. I don't think it was actually hurting the acros, but it caused them to retract their polyps during the day - bye bye angel. Some people say that some angels don't nip, so you could try another (but I think it more likely to nip than not).

have to agree with Obi-dad. angels are a crap-shoot as to nipping or not. some will do fine for months and then start nipping. no guarantees with any of them. too bad, as they're gorgeous fish

The angel isn't nippin to harm the corals or the clam. It is trying to get to detritus and algae that is probably growing on them. I have a flame that did it for a few days and hasnt done it since. Good luck with whatever you decide to do

i disagree........they do eat corals. i had a flame that destroyed 3 different colonies of SPS and was working on killing my frogspawn before i could catch him. once they get the taste there is nothing you can do but sell them to someone that doesn't have the corals it likes to eat.

Angels are hit or miss I have 3 dwarf angels all do not pick but this is not the norm. You need to decide if it is ok to have your Corals nipped at if not take out the fish

They are a hit & miss. I have both (2 different reef tanks) and have yet to see the Flame nip but I have caught the HalfBlack nip at one of my leathers. I've watched the Half for awhile now and it mostly just nips at all the alge. It has touch any zoo colonys or anyother of my corals. So far I think I'm in good shape but it also something I need to monitor

Dwarf angels sometimes do this, and once they develop a taste for corals and/or clams, AFAIK there's no way to stop them. I agree with the others - you need to remove this particular angel from your tank. No reason you can't try again with another, but the risk will always be there (IMHO they're worth it though, dwarf angels are wonderful fish).
Good luck catching him - if you can't trap or net him, I suggest lining up some Rubbermaid bins and buckets and draining the tank. It's a bit of a task with a 50g, but not impossible, and it's a relatively hassle-free way to catch fish. Dig a hole in the sand, and drain down to about 1-2" of water - as the water disappears, the fish will congregate in the depression, allowing you to pick up the angel without disturbing your rockwork or overly stressing the fish. The corals will be fine out of water for 15 minutes or so, don't worry about them. When you've caught the fish, just use a strong powerhead to re-fill the tank.
