i wouldnt use this chiller on anything larger than 180 gallons. that IMO is max capacity regardless of what jbj would tell you. i have this on my 90 and it keeps up fine but almost exactly optimal (runs 23 mins per 1.5 hours) according to jbj's instructions.

i thought it's always better for chiller to run at least 40mins everytime it turns on ...

however, i have this chiller on my 210gallon +75gallon sump. used to turn on once a day during the super summer time. from 81-79F, takes about 1.5-2 hours.

chillers use the most energy when the pump engages. just because the fan is blowing doesnt mean the pump is on either. so, with that being said the chiller would be more efficient if it came on 2x a day than if it was turning off and on every other hour.

The chiller is still available.

actually if you look at the quotes from the manufacturer, it is ideal to have the chiller run 20 minutes per hour. Once or twice per day (as long as that is under 20 minutes each time it runs) is fine. I understand your logic behind it using less energy but that doesn't mean its best for the chiller's compressor or the unit's life.

You would need a lot of flow to accomplish that cooling rate. I only run 500 gph and it takes 40 min to cool my 120. A 3 degree temp drop within 20 min probably isnt good for the inhabitants of the tank either.
