candy cane head coming off???????

This is the second head to do this in the past 2 months. What can i say....it just came off. This cane looks really good and i have no idea on why it's doing this. Is this the way they reproduce? I have a pic...notice the seperated head on the rock.

If yours split to form two heads, then yes, that is one form of caulastrea reproduction. In other cases, the coral will drop a fragment of its skeleton and eventually separate from the colony, forming a separate coral.

This is a soft type of candy cane not hard. Only the soft part came off.

It seems to be another case of polyp bailout. Did you make any changes in lighting recently?

No changes at all. Any idea why it is doing this? The polyp even had it's feeding tentacules out last night.
