Company Christmas parties
Anybody else hate them?
Now, I love Christmas, love parties. I just don't like to party with the goons I work with/for. Location: A cheesy lounge with a very cheesy lounge singer. She needed a bucket to carry a tune (and a bra to carry her droopy front). The drummer broke into a solo of, I kid you not, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida baby! Food was late and barely warm. Not sure what is causing the "intestinal distress" but it's either the chicken or the "chocolate bomb" dessert. At least I got to go straight home. And project managers are annoying enough when they are sober.

My party is Friday night. I work in a small office with only 6 people so 12 of us go out to dinner at a nice restaurant, order off the menu, drink nice bottles of wine. It's really fun but I also like the people I work with.

Ours was yesterday. I missed it, Little Boy and Little Girl had a choir performance. Usually their pretty fun. We have it at local mexican place, a few drinks, white elephant gifts and I take off for the rest of the day.

Mine is formal, kinda stuffy. We group the cool people at one table and get ripped. Although, we're only going to stay there for about an hour, then go to my wife's company party. They give away like $30,000 in electronics for door prizes. Pretty much everyone in attendance goes home with a TV, stereo, DVD player, or something.

Ours was great this year. Like Carrie we have a small company. It was 12 people, counting spouses, and we had "The Boardroom" at Morton's steakhouse. We also had the choice between roundtrip cab fare or a hotel room at a nearby Embassy Suites for the night.
Santa says "No DUI for the holidays!"

Now that's cool. I need a new job. It would help if I liked these people. I think if I'm still there next year I'll get "lost" and miss it.

1st year at this client we had ours at a function room at a hotel
No windows, a small fake tree, NO booze (some snuck out to roder at the bar) 2nd year I didn't bother This year I doubt I will bother either My wife's is employees only Kind of hard to care about a Company where a Mgr is allowed to say "I never should have F'ing hired you" to multiple people He's now been moved to a different client...gee someone complained I never wanted to work for a big corporation, now I know why Best parties we used to have was the bank. SOmehow the IT Dept was known as the drinkers. Everyone recd (2) tickets for drinks...somehow we ended up with pockets of them  Closed the party, then the bar Found out (next day) the girl who was getting drunk with us was underage and the guy who was driving behind me was pulled over by a cop Officer said he was doing 45 thru the intersection Not possible since I saw the Officer & was doing 30 |

We didn't bother going to mine. Not very fond with the company right now.
Last week was ms. dkh's bar association. We made an appearance, had a few free drinks, ate and left. This weekend is my wife's office party. Since its just her and her sect, we just take her and her husband out for dinner and drinks.

Oh, this was not a choice. Since it was on work time, it was an "off-site meeting". Ho ho ho (but enough about the lounge singer)

I used to go to mine the first three years on the job...HATED them! Why would I want to go to a holiday "party" where everyone continues to talk about work and I end up getting more work to do because of it???? I finally quit going....which is sad because we almost always have a very nice food spread and open bar in a unique historic building in the city. But I hate the politics of it all...which is horribly ironic since I indirectly work in politics working in the field of economic development. Ah well.

My previous company threw great parties (OK, I planned them, so I guess I threw a great party) - dinner, dancing, live band, casino tables and car service home. We always made a video for the party - one year it was a knock-off of the academy awards, another year it was "reality" tv - even the senior executives participated. And of course, the requisite car service home.
This year, my new company threw a stuffy cocktail party - chamber music, passed hors d'oevres. Just too stuffy! But at least they had booze (which I don't generally participate in - never know if I'm gonna have to fire someone for getting too drunk!!!).

we had ours at a bowling alley it was just us and another small party there, it was a blast it was free for us but our guest we brought there was a small fee, but it was fuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn.
i had a bit to drink and a few shots with co worker . finally got to use my bowling shoes again (my friend bought them few yrs back for me for my birthday).

My first year with my company they had a big bash at a really high class place
last year was dave and busters so i didnt go and i cant wait to see about this year. my wifes job is employees only after work tonight so while shes out at her party im going to go get some sushi or something.

I'll have 2 this year...one in-house this coming Friday which I'll have to at least make an appearance at and another at a hotel that I've no plans to go to. The fun factor has definitely gone down as the size of the company has gone up.

I work for an insurance company so, no parties, nothing involving the consumption of alcohol, no nothing. I ain't complaining though

We had ours already, and it was a really good time. As others have said, it makes a world of difference when you like your coworkers and enjoy being around them.

Ours is always great, we do it in Jan so everyone has a chance of coming. We either fly or drive to Casper and stay the weekend, all on the owner. Some of these people we've known for 30 years so it's usually great to see them. Sometimes we have a band, sometimes a DJ, depends.
