Question What is so special about IceCap ballasts?

Is it just me, or do icecaps seem rediculously high priced compared to their competition. What is so special about them to warrent the increadibly high price?

Consider the following for T5HO's

Icecap 430 Electronic Ballast $159
Triad T5 HO Fluorescent Ballast: 2-24W/39W $40
Workhourse 5 $29

My guess is the service and warrenty that accompines them, should they need to be repaired.

I have one that is 4 years old and still works like it is brand new, and my brother has one that is pushing 10 years, and it is still running like a champ.

I also believe that they come with the heatsink and a wiring harness.

I have always been a firm believer in "You get what you pay for". Sometimes, its best not to cut corners.

dimmable!

Can't see much of a difference besides the icecap's are dimmable. I also had good luck with the service. My light controller kept popping one of the ballast, I returned it about 4-5 times before I got it through my thick skull that the controller was bad.

I have no experience with the Triad ballasts, but haven't heard anything wrong with them.

Many many people have workhorse ballasts and I never hear of any problems. The CS is pretty responsive in my experience.

I don't see how a heatsink and wiring harness can make THAT much of a difference in price. The other ballasts don't need heatsinks. My fulhams are supposed to have thermal protection and I have never had any heat issues with it.

The "you get what you pay for" is an optimists look at it. How often do you pay a pretty penny for a namebrand? Bose is a MAJOR example here. Others could be like sony or nike.

I know I am being argumentative....just trying to get to the bottom of it. There very well may be a good justification for the price. I just like to do my homework on my equipment.

It is repairable!!!

Long warrenty

Electronic ballasts pay for themselves when compared to normal ballasts

They have great customer service to help with your problems setting things up

Bottom line they are cheaper in the long run.

Not sure, very well may be a name thing.

$135 for a 660. you won't find better prices than these guy's. I researched for month's to find the best prices. find something on another site and they match it. most of the time there regular prices are cheaper then other sale price's.
