PH Monitors

Are PH monitors more convenient to use than test kits? How often do they need recalibration? Which are the best ones? I am going to use it to test 3 tanks so I do not need one to constantly monitor the PH. Thanks

They are more accurate than test strips or solutions. I use an American Marine Pinpoint ($85). I calibrate it about twice a year but some calibrate more. No one has stated in other posts if it was off or that it needed calibrating, mine might be off by .02 sometimes. One thing to keep in mind is you need to keep the probe wet. So if you use it on multiple tanks just leave it in one when not using it. Don't take in out and leave it on a shelf. Instructions say the average lifespan of a probe is around 2 years, and replacements are about $45. My original died in about a year and there is debate on whether or not the probe lasts longer if the unit is on 24/7 or only turned on when you want to check. My first probe was on/off. This one is just over a year and is on 24/7.
