Will a NO ballast still light up a VHO bulb?

Will a normal output ballast, let's say from Home Depot, still light up a VHO bulb, albeit much less bright?

I don't see why not. I have not personally tried it. But, it won't be as bright and may shorten the life of the bulb. So I would not even put those bulbs on. I would use regular NO because you are not gaining anything by doing so. Just a more expensive light bulb bill.

As long as you have a high enough initial current to start the lamp it shoud run.

The lamp will run but at the same intensity as a NO bulb. The VHO will only run for a few months though.

Are you saying that it will actually burn out, and not just lose some quality it had before?

Yep. It'll get dark on the ends in a few months and then fail to light.

That's wild stuff. I did not know that. (in Johnny Carson voice.) Thanks for the info.
