That is one huge clam, lol, you are going to have to give that thing a tank of its own. How big is it?

in your parameters I don't see a reading for phosphates. With the load in that tank I would be checking phosphates pretty close

ohh yea... phosphates 0ppm! :-). I change my carbon and phosphate remover on a monthly basis. I attribute my success to my deep sand bed and large amound of live rock in the tank. Also, my addition of some very large clams and some smaller species (4 clams total) in a relatively small tank I believe is a critical part of keeping my nitrates under control.Tank has been sustained with this fish load for a long period of time with no fluctuations in parameters (except for relatively recent addition of baby clown fish).

That deep sand bed will reek havoc on your tank if you ever have a long period without power, we found that out here in New Orleans with Katrina. during a period of no power all the crap down in that deep sand will start leaching back into your tank real quick. The normal down here now is only about 1 1/2 inch deep sand beds to avoid that in the future. Just an FYI

Thanks for the warning. I hope to have a remedy for this catastrophe in the coming months for I will be buying a nice little honda generator that will be able to sustain a heater, powerhead, and perhaps one metal halide pendant... for as long as I can afford to keep it full of Gas.

Nice tank. Although, I'd keep an eye out for that trigger, because as it grows, it will become more aggressive/bold and might find a taste for corals. Happened to me once...

Just thought I'd give a heads up.

It looks great! I love your coral selections, and as I take it you're planning to upgrade sometime soon, I like your fish choices, too . Very cool looking reef!

Thanks for all the great compliments! I do have an upgrade planned for the future but am awaiting my confirmation of admission to medical school... that way i know where to set up the tank. I will most likely go to 150 gallons or so with a 40 gallon fuge/prop tank and 20 gallon sump in stand. I would like to get add more fish... hence the upgrade... i love CBBs and purple tangs... but obviously that will have to wait!

Bassettmd I'm in the same situation!! I have two 40 gallons tanks that are getting quite crowded but I am holding off on a new 120 until I figure out if/where I'll be going to medical school next year. I should be hearing from UW-Madison SMPH any day now. What is your top choice?

Your tank looks excellent, and I LOVE that enormous clam!

Aimforever - My top choice is Colorado University Health Sciences Center... brand new multi billion dollar campus and an awesome atmosphere for such a competitive school (11 in the nation). Thanks for the compliments... I will be picking up a few more goodies this weekend!
