recirc. mod or mesh mod??

I have an ASM G1 skimmer, and I'm thinking about modding it. First, is it necessary? I haven't set up the tank yet, so I don't know how well it performs (~100 ga. water volume). If I were to mod it, is the recirc mod or mesh mod better? and why? Also, good links to step by step DIY mods would help my decision, as I'm a little nervous about cutting into my newly purchased (though used) skimmer. Thanks.

First use the skimmer as is to see if it works well for you before you decide to mod it. Try the mesh mod first before you try the other. For a 58gal tank the stock model should work well. Since it is already broken, it should start skimming the first day.

DO NOT perform the mesh mod if you do not have a kill a watt. Too many people do it and have no idea if the pump is over-taxed. Then complain when there is premature failure.
