healthy sardonic dose

I read this entire thread ... (and most of pbarrett's other posts... heh) and it was... like reading The Globe but without actually spending money on it. About that ridiculous, and amusing at the same time.
Speaking of vegan animals though and following similar 'logic'...

I have a born again christian friend that states that animals did not sin until after a & e got booted from the garden. Thus meaning, they did not kill one another for food sources.
Me: "So.... you're really saying, that tigers always had sharp teeth for grass eating? "
Her: "He made them all different. They didn't have to eat grass, but plants."
So really, the ethical burden can be lifted on us aquarists. lol
Harlequin Shrimp are sinners, and are choosing their own fate.

So if we raised starfish for the specific purpose of feeding them to shrimp, that would be ok? And what about the poor vegetables you are eating, what about their feelings? Who are we to say which beans get eaten, and which ones allowed to live out their full life, to make little beans?

Oh geez... you need to do a little research on just how bad the meat industry is for the environment. One of the MAJOR causes of destruction of the coral reefs and the entire natural world (and I'm sooo going to get flamed for this)... is human consumption of meat. There are other causes... but this one is a biggy.

I'm sorry but I just can't resist....
This is a picture I took while visiting Bejing China.

The starfish on stick as something the kids over there look forward too like lollypops over here. Unethical?

Recap,

pbarret spoke up as the only person on RC who thinks the feeding of star fish to harlequin srimp was bad. And every other post was either flaming or mocking the original line of though.

And now your up to date.

Ok, Ok, Ok. Half the posts were flaming/mocking. 1/4 of the posts were trying to understand the purpose of the original post, and 1/4 of the posts were side thoughts and commentary.

BAM!

Up to date again!

Not at all... in fact, I made no qualification of "good" or "bad." I'm simply stating the simple fact that given the world's rat-like infestation of the entire natural world... and given how insatiable the human appetite for meat is... well, there won't be any coral reefs to speak of 100 years from now.

But there are those who have the view that the natural world is here for the taking... that human life is more important than anything else, etc. And so I'm not appealing to any higher moral power or authority... I'm simply telling it like it is.

florida's reefs are being killed by sugar and citrus growers, along with manicured lawns. so veggies are the ones smothering the reefs here...

Hehe, I don't know about you, Rick, but I feel so much better when we have those members who feel the need to "educate" us with their self-appointed sense of enlightenment.

Wow, coming in really late here, but so my liking meat is killing the reefs? And what research is there out there proving this?

Or was that what GreenPeace was doing when they hit the reef with their ship?

Ask Dr. Ron... he explains it a lot better than I do. And even so, he's not a vegetarian. So, like I said, there are the facts of the matter and then there's how you interpret those facts to apply to your own moral responsibility.

Personally, I find keeping harlequin shrimp more defensible than eating beef and salmon on a regular basis.
