It could work but completely defeats the purpose of a venturi skimmer and ease of use. Its made to use any pump you want to throw on it within reason ; )

Hey Luke you said that you picked up your Rouge for $250. What website did you get that deal from. Thanks for the reply and this thread. I was going to invest in a Remora-Pro! Thank god I decided to really do some research on the HOT's. I would have been one sad Newb!

I think Luke got his skimmer from Somthing Fishy
There was a price increase a couple of weeks ago though so the price has went up a little.
BTW I'm loving my rouge.

Go to the bermuda homepage, there's three rogue sellers, one is still selling them for 250. Something fishy is 274 buuut its free shipping. Get a mag 5 with it and your set. I'l try to post a pic later after my wife goes to bed. My last days worth is by far the nastiest skimmate i've seen from it.

Did you leave the bioballs in or take them out?

I think on FragFarmer you can still get the unit for $250 without a pump. The toofishy gives you a "free pump" and jacks the price a bit.

They give you a free turd basically. You do not want the bioballs, i don't think they even come with the skimmer anymore. Now there is a bubble buster that comes with it. Yup, its fragfarmer. I'm not using the mag 5. I'm using a sicce pump i had laying around. But the mag 5 is a better pump to use imo.

If you do that watch out for backpressure and your h2o level rising in your skimmer. It will also act as some mechanical filtration so keep it clean. I need to clean my rogue already, as its filled with gunk!

Oh yea... definitely going to keep it clean. What skimmers you think the rogue can outskim again? I'd just like the recap lol

HOT wise.......all of the above so far. The only drawback that the rogue has is the pump hangs in the tank and its ugly if you don't conceal it. There are only three other skimmers out there untested that i would like to see how they would do. Turbofloater blue 3000, as its supose to pull 35scfh. The octo recirc 300 which i should have in a week or two to test, and the ATB cone hot. It's totally a cone so it must be better......lol. It produces around 12scfh so i don't think its going to be a big contender. The only hot out there that may be better is the turbo 3000 but who wants to pay 550bux for one.

Do you think that a mag 5 would be to much for a 65 mixed reef? I have a blue spot jawfish, melnaurus wrasse(sp), and a tailspot blenny. My corals are just a couple softies and some Florida Rics.

Well you can adjust it to suit your type of system, but its going to come in handy also when you start stocking up some more and need that extra power.

That's what I figured. Just didn't want to suck the salt right out of the water on such a tiny system!

Definitely not overskimming people hook big 200+ gallon Deltecs to tanks that size.

I just decided to take the plunge to get the Burmuda rogue. I ordered from frag farmer $250 + fed ex ground ($13). I was spending too much time playing with mt diy in tank skimmer and it also took up too much room- four inch abs pipe inside the tank powered by an aspirating odyssea 500 ex powerhead. The skimmer and powerhead took about 8 inches of tank space!!!

Hey Luke, great job testing this skimmer and thanks for all the info generated. How would the Rogue fare with a Mag 3?

It would be good with a mag 3 also, but if possible... mag 5 almost makes thing perfect.

It'll pull 16scfh with the mag 3 which is right in line with the deltec mce600, but i'd suggest the mag 5. My pump i was using crapped out on me so i have a pos pump on it right now. Whats funny is its pulling skimmate with it but i'll be buying a mag 5 soon.
