I think other stores are jealous because maybe without as much overhead, they can afford to to get nicer stuff in. Does this mean that they need to give it away? Of course not. Get real people.

Of course basement cshops can get top of the line equipment and have primo corals, they do not have to pay store front rent or the other stuff that goes along with operating a legit retail business

cshop? hmm i dont follow. there are/were some basement run chop shops in the chicago area, but DLC is far from one.

primo corals command primo dollars, this true for a bm store front or a basement run store such as DLC. even if a store front had plenty of cash, it's not that simple to get, hand picked corals and cites permits, and attracting that type of clientele.

the same is true for equipment. there's an image certain companies wish to uphold, that many stores in the chicago area could not.

clearly FRP, you have your own motives. only 30 posts you speak up here? i am not sure of your interests, nor do I care...but I can assure you that you're out of line with your comments.

cheers,

eric

Very interesting read here guys. A lot of things I was not aware of. As an out of state observer it is very interesting that a local shop would not support a discount to local club members -if thats true. When I travel down to the various excellent fish shops in the CMAS area I usually get treated very good with some sort of discount. Sometimes the selection is excellent sometimes a little picked over, but considering the distance traveled it usually is always worth a trip.

No agenda, I was not calling DLC a chop shop (just a fat finger when typing) Stores that have the overhead of a storefront can not afford to have only primo corals,it would be nice but the markup would be to high. Figure a store front has $2500-5000 in monthly operating costs. A home based store no extra rent, insurance ect.....
http://www.reefraft.ca is the magic place where the primo corals come from now we all can open a basement shop up.

I am tired of seeing all these stores closing. I actually enjoy going to a store to check things out. I really do not like going to someones house if you know what i mean.

Wow do you really think that this is my only supplier???

Boy if this doesn't sound like one of the stores that was starting problems.

Why don't you man up and tell everyone who you really are???

cant we all be friends. there is nothing wrong with the store the way it is being run. if there was, i am sure somebody would have turned them in for it. If you feel they have such an advantage then move into your basement. its not all good. Most of all this store is a completely different market, and a small one at that. 90 percent of the salwater hobbyist population wouldnt know what to do with that type of stuff. so just let it goo..

DLC runs a top notch business out of their home, which makes a lot of people jealous. This goes back to what kawicivic said. To say that its "low blow to a lfs" because they don't have a regular retail space is the most ridiculous comment i have ever heard. They still have a mortgage to pay, electric, phone, water, insurance, OVERHEAD!!!! They do carry dry goods people, its not like they stock only 1 of everthing they carry.

*calling the federal government for no good reason but to try and shut down a competitor is just sad......

I'm done "ranting" before i get i trouble. sorry Boyd couldn't help it
jski711~Please don't put word in my mouth....
Like I said before, I'm sorry I posted that picture of the scolly I purchased from SeaShor in this thread.
I also never said anything negative about DLC.
I would like to thank Mike for his concern about the burn on the side of the scolly. It has healed nicely.
I have heard rumors of the DLC business, but I consider rumors to be nothing more....

I like the DLC, the little dogs & Mike & Elizabeth.

I doubt that Mike and Elizibeth are making millions while all of the local stores are going broke. People need to quit being stupid. I would like to know who these other stores are that are hating on DLC so I would know where not to shop.

Rumors are all they are since these stores have nothing better to do with their time.

We have no problem with anyone, yet many people seem to be threatened and have problems with us.

Thanks to all for the support.

FREE MARKET.This country is built on it every day.The basement are not only a place to get primo stuff, but a really good deal as well. The basements make a guy like me{poor} able to get the good stuff like the rich. There are alot of cool things happing in the reefer basments across the nation.Propagation is the main way to make $.This helps the reefer, the reef, and the owner paying the elect. bill.Take clowns instance....People everywhere are raising them.So much that it is hard to import them[percs].The colecters are passing them up due to low demand.Sooo where does the reef fish stay.....on the reef. That is made possible by all the basements out there.I think this is possable for the corals as well.Give it time. There are people that will NOT buy a wild caught coral. There tanks are cranking.Where are we getting all the tank raised......Basements.I have a basement with a few tanks. If I raise 1000 clowns a month,am I helping the clowns, reefers, reefs, and my family.I think so.!!!!!!!!!!!!Whoever called the Gov. on DLC,What was your motivation...GREED...I have one word for you TRICK
