I know socialized medicine can cause delay but our crowded ERs are the result of troubled "market driven" medicine. Our local ERs are overwhelmed by uninsured patients using ER as their regular care that the insured patients have to wait in line. I hope he is alright. I am certainly looking at my rabbitfish in a different light now.

Sounds like anaphylactic shock. I hope he made it to the ER last night. If he plans on keeping poisonous fish in the tank from now on, he may need to keep an epi-pen close at hand. Hopefully, he's seen a doctor and has one now.

Thank you to everyone for their concern and advice!!! I was unable to get him to go to the ER. However, I wakened him every hour last night. (which he wasn't happy about). But, I told him that if he went to ER to get it checked out we wouldn't have to be worrying about this. I did threaten to call 911, but as he wasn't really having symptoms anymore and was refusing to be transported, I didn't figure it would help.

I do have an Epi-Pen here as I have several anaphylactic allergies myself. At no time did I observe him having any of those symptoms. I would not have hesitated to use it and call 911 if I did.

I did talk with Poison control a total of 3 times. They were excellent about checking on him. They felt that he may have had an allergic reaction to the venom and that the worse "may" be over. I still am keeping a close eye on his stings to make sure he doesn't get a secondary infection.

Thank you for all your prayers and kind wishes. I truly wish he was not so stubborn (or ignorant). It would have truly helped in this situation.

If anything changes, I'll keep you posted! Thanks again!

I'm glad hubby is feeling a bit better this morning. Hopefully, the worst of his reactions are over. Tell him he's very stubborn and very lucky!

Thank you for your kind words and understanding!!! He IS VERY lucky and stubborn (perhaps stupid?) as well!!

I am just very thankful that so far, we have not had any major problems. I just pray that it continues and he is out of the woods and will not contract any infection from the incident.

The person saying the wait was several hours is from Canada.

You definitely have some valid points but if you think socialized medicine is the cure, go visit the D.M.V.

Back to the point...I'm glad everything seems to have turned out okay. I added a Rabbitfish and I definitely account for his whereabouts before putting my hands in the water.

I am glad he is alright. From my own experience, don't let his stubbornness ever stop you from calling 911 again. My father was the same, one night he felt numb but refused my mom to call 911 until the next morning. He is now paralyzed from the stroke. Had he got the care in time he could have been walking still and my mom would have had a much easier time. It is actually doing yourself a favor if not for him.

I missed that part. The wait at our local ERs are easily many hours unless you are half dead.

As far as the DMV, I have not had to wait in line for many years, all you have to do is call for an appointment or use the online functions.

Now our post office is another story.

But don't even get me started with air travel these days!

What an absolutely horrible analogy. I grew up with socialized medicine in Denmark and the DMV is nothing like it.

Socialized medicine results in you being able to call an ambulance because of a broken arm, get treatment right away and walk out not paying a cent.

So how do you pay for your own hospital bills if you have to go through a major surgery?

I have what's called priorities. A portion of my family income is put away into an investment account for emergencies. So far (knock on wood) this has not been an issue. If/when it does become an issue I will not be beholden to a government agency or an insurance company. Oh...and by the way, I and my family of four are part of the 40+ million that do not have private health insurance(by choice). Another 10-12 million receive blue cross/blue shield, approx. 7 million are 18-24 years old and see themselves as invincible and have their own priorities that preclude them from buying private insurance. Also, keep in mind that when an employee moves from one job to another and has a laps in employer supplied insurance, even for a matter of a month or so they are included in the much hyped "40 million".

To say that the 40+ million have no insurance by choice is really over stating how many people are in your mind set, all you have to think is what is the saving rate in the US. Which leads me to think you might be overly confident with your own availability to cover major hospital bills that can go into tens of thousands for just a few days of stay.

The sad truth is we all end up paying for people like you because hospitals can not refuse to treat the uninsured and when people can not pay the bills they file for bankruptcy, and we insurance payers and often tax money will end up bailing you out.

Yet we are constantly being mock by people like you for supporting the system.
