Acro eating Flatworm. Real or myth
I started doing SPS corals when I got this ugly brown frag from my LFS about a year ago. It turned into a nice tri color with nice eggplant purple tips and then I was hooked.
About 2 months ago had to deal with my first 'real' pest, the dreaded redbug. Even though I had noticed all of my milli's not opening and the colors of most corals were lacking, they had become a very big population by the time I noticed them. In my research on how to kill them, someone told me of an acro eating flatworm. Are they real and how do you treat them? Any pics or links? I'd like to know what to look for before they become a problem like I did with the redbugs. Scott

Yes, and be serious with them. Treatments over and over, just because you don't see them after the first, does not mean the eggs were destroyed. Flatworm exit works good, but follow directions and have plenty of carbon ready. You can wipe out your tank by killing loads of flatworms. Lot's of extra water and carbon.

they are real!!! im treating for them as i type this.. lost 3 frags so far... thin branch volidia, prostrata and tri-color stag... ( i think thats what they are called...) i know they are only 3 and are only frags but thats a lot to me... im going to dip interceptor and fluke tabs for every frag i get from now on..

Yes they are very real. Like a few people here I broke my whole tank down and treated the corals. I used Fluke tabs in a 5 gal bucket when dipping/treating my sps. The one thing I did learn is if the coral does not show effect of being attacked by AEFW they are more then likely not on that coral. When I was dipping the only corals that the AEFW came off of were the ones showing sighs of them.

Somebody tod you that AEFWs eat redbugs? Good friend. AEFWs and Redbugs are both pests, and I want neither in my tank.
Interceptor to treat redbugs, Fluke Tabs/Camel shrimp to treat AEFWs

I think it's also important to distinguish between the regular ole' run of the mill brown planaria/flatworm that is more of a nuisance and AEFW's. Flatworm exit kills the brown flatworms but does nothing to kill AEFW's

Yeah they are real and about 1000x's worse than redbugs, hell these days redbugs are easier to rid than cyano!
It makes me wonder if they really are flatworms though.........why won't flatworm exit kill them if so? Chris
