Car topic, what new car for under $100K would you choose?

I figured I would start car topics until I found one that people would be interested in.

So here is my next one. What car under $100K would you choose, and the reason for wanting it? It can be any type, sports car, luxury car, SUV, anything you choose. The 100k is for a new car, not a used one.

If I was feeling patriotic, I guess I'd go for a Ford Taurus except I think they've replaced it with another car. Otherwise, I really like my Toyota Avalon. Or maybe one of those Dodge Hemi station wagons, I'd like the storage in a car that wasn't real sluggish in traffic. I guess I'm one of those "sour grapes" guys who doesn't like presumptious cars and makes fun of people who drive Hummers.

I saw one of those Bently's down in Florida 2 days ago. VERY sweet car.

Hmmmm.... I wouldn't mind having a Nissan 350 Z or a nice 06 VET.....but I would suffice with a 2006 Honda Civic Si also.

Mike--

A year ago some friends and I had the opportunity to drive a new Taurus and a Dodge Caravan from Wisconsin to Colorado.

Oddly enough, despite having the about the same size engine, the Caravan had a lot more pep! The accelerator on the Taurus was real mushy, I suppose it must have been the torque converter or transmission. It struck me funny, but every time I had to drive the Taurus I found myself wishing I had the minivan!

To answer the question myself, I'd either buy one of those little Toyota hybrids or a turbodiesel Jetta (with a five speed, of course).

If I had to choose something sporty due to the nature of the thread, I'd go with a dark gray RX-8 (six speed, of course!).

Oh, I think I'd go for a hybrids - I think only Toyota and Honda are still the only ones selling them in the US so far. With the rest of the money, I'd throw in some bigger batteries and a charger to charge it from my home's AC. People are modding those cars just like gear heads mod sports cars, but to get more efficiency. And since electricity is relatively cheap, charging your car from your home's AC is like paying 50 cents for gas.

I'm sure you are cheating, but who cares, go for anything now regardless of cost.

With $100k, I'd buy a black Toyota Tundra V8 w/TRD offroad pkg and SR5 pkg, then use the remaining $$$ to buy a really nice boat.

I think Ford and Chevy both have hybrids for 2006, but I understand the setup is not quite as efficient as Toyotas. I was reading an article that the hybrid S-10 will have a generator function. Plug the reef in after the next power outage!

If I ever got one of those turbodiesels I would setup a garage biodiesel plant. You can build one with a few 55 gallon drums and a water heater. The biodiesel people quote about the same price ~ 50 cents/gallon.

I'm kind of partial to these, about 0-100 in 1 second. The only other machines that create the g forces these things do are the space shuttle and jet fighter planes. I think they may be a little over the 100K mark, but I have no idea. I also think they are kind of high maintenance. You have to change the oil more often than every 3,000 miles. 6K HP, you really need some sticky tires for one of these. Run flats just don't work, so if you get stranded on the side of the road, you have to call for a real long flat bed to get to the shop.
