skimmer and redslime remover

I posted yesterday, and I did turn the skimmer off after dosing the redslime remover, Tried to turn it back on today, and it is still going insane.
The directions did not even say to turn the skimmer off, much less for how long. Has anyone used this before?
How long should the skimmer stay off so it does not go crazy overflowing when i put it back on?

Im sure he turned it off for 1 day during the treatment. After turning the skimmer back on, it took 2 days till it was operating properly again. Thats what happened in my case.

When I have dosed it, I leave the skimmer off for a couple of days, then do a water change sucking out the dead algae and the turn the skimmer back on.

is your skimmer in a sump---could you run a filter sock for awhile to relieve the skimmer?

Actually i have one of the trickle filter one piece set ups now. I have taken bio-balls out so in some ways it is a sump, but no place for a filer sock.
I am planning on going to a sump soon, but have to buy a new skimmer since my current one is part of that trickle system.
The skimate is pretty clean, not really taking much out of it.
I am asume it is taking out small algae particles, so i assume if I let it go it may settle down in a bit.
Any thoughts
