My five years old Clown trigger kill my 10" Tusk fish after four years in the same tank together ,when i had the old tank. That is the reason i asked this new tank will be larger, i had them in a 135 gallon tank.

clown triggers eventually kill most things in the tank, they are known to snap one day after being with their tank mates after several years. Danorth hopefully your fish live

ive had a 5" one in a 90g tank with a niger trigger and a dogface puffer for 3 years. IMO, they are as compatible as many of the other aggressive triggers. but, get very territorial overtime. every couple months, i would take all the fish out and completely re-do the way the tank looks(rocks, powerheads, etc). this helps alot in keeping the aggression/territorialness down. hth

All triggers are Jekyll and Hyde. Just judge their temperament at the LFS. Put your hand on the glass and see if they bite at you. If they do they are meaner than S*&% and will not do well with others. However, if they don't then they might fare well with others.

I think that the trick to buying any fish is watch them at the lfs. I won't EVER buy a fish the first time I see them. I like to see them in a tank for a few weeks. This way I know that they didn't just come in yesterday and still adapting to the tank, I ask them to be fed first, check for parasites, and attitude. Sometimes I miss out and someone else gets them, but I just take it as a grain of salt, and know that it wasnt ment to be.

There are many triggers that don't fall into this category, but I would agree that clown triggers definitely do.

In all honesty, you probably won't have much better luck in a 180g than in the 135g. You might buy a little time, but even this size tank is going to eventually feel cramped for the trigger.

How much time i had my Clown trigger for four years and it was 9" long, it grow about 7" in four years yes the 135 was to small for the CT that is why he is now in a 400G friends tank, but i miss the fish all the racket when it see you coming to feed him they are good pets About a 7'x2'x2' that is a 210 gallon tank that is the biggest i can fit in the house.
I have a 200G in the living room now but it is a reef tank.
I just like to have one fish in this tank but i was thinking i can put a buddy in the tank with him .

Clown triggers dont keep buddies long, one day they just kill all thier friends. ive kept a lot of different triggers over the years and the clown is my favorite but they are unpredictable.

Coastalagu,

I just setup a 30 gallon tank with a 3 inch clown trigger, how long can I keep him before he outgrows it?

karlyhui, 2 days...seriously.

back on topic, maybe the larger eels or groupers. i would stick to inexpensive fish if i could knowing the risk involved.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0

oh, and heres just a video i found online. the guy has an immense clown trigger, a zebra moray eel, pair of little clowns and umm....a tiny neon goby with a cleaner shrimp and they all co-exist together. this just shows the difference in temperment of these fish.

What about larger angels or tangs? I plan on getting a huge 265+ tank for a FOWLR later down the road and the stock list is going to be a clown trigger, sohal tang, passer angel, miniatus grouper and some sort of eel. If the tang and angel are bigger then the trigger, I don't see a problem, actually I see the angel and tang owning the trigger easily, all those fish have a nasty reputation, the grouper and eel just mind their own business.

you guys are cruel.... you should show some respect for people when the post on this board. they are asking for answers to their questions and not criticism.

karlyhui- you should probably start thinking of a bigger tank for him or a better home. Most people can keep them in a small tank when they are tiny (like 1.5 in) for a few months and then put them in a larger environment. just go for the biggest you can and if he still gets too big, find a good home for him.

Now back on topic, I think you can get away with a few cheap damsels that you can get from people who are sick of em terrorizin' their fish. Maybe a larger eel (zebra moray, fimbriated moray etc....), a grouper, and maybe a larger angel. just stick with large fish that can hold their own. HTH
