Toadstool Self-Fraggging?

I have had a Toadstool for about 9 months and last month I noticed a slight tear across the top not the column. Over the last month this tear has increased to almost half way through the top. The flesh is not rotting and the polyps extend during the day and retract at night.

Is this normal??

It is about 7 inches tall the cap has a 4" diameter and the stalk a 2 inch diameter. Decent size gets good current flow.
