100G Prop Tank Plans

I'm planning a 100G prop tank.

48" x 30" x 16"
Acrylic Custom
Huge rear overflow into 50 gallon sump
Dual 400watt HQI DE 10K Coralvue
Quad 68watt PC Actinic
3000GPH closed loop
780GPH sump return

Three shelf levels
lps sps softies
__ ---- __

I'm thinking of doing a sand bed underneath, though I know most if not all prop tanks have BB.

Any suggestions?

IMO its alot of light. i jave a problem acclimating corals to 250 watt bulbs over my shallow tanks. its probably going to cost more in electricity than u will get for your corals.

good luck

i dont recommend mixing sps,lps snd softies together in the same tank. the growth rate will be greatly reduced. using just one 250 watt halide raised about 12" over the surface will give u enough light coverage to put light hungry corals in the middle and lower light corals on the sides.

That is a lot of light for a 16" tank. I have a 33L that is about 13.5" deep and just have two 110 VHO bulbs over it and everything is growing and coloring up great. I have racks built so the corals sit just under the surface of the water. There are three levels of racking to adjust them as needed. I couldn't imagine 400watt halides over that deep of a tank.

I have had ok results mixing zoanthids, lps, and sps in the same tank. I don't have any other softies like leathers or anything though.

I am planning an expansion and I plan to have three independent systems for zoas/palys, lps, sps... Besides being able to keep the water params different on all three tanks, I think being able to create the flow I want for each is really going to help too.

Good luck with your venture

is it that bad mixing the different corals? i probably wouldn't put in things like torch corals and hammers... or leathers for that matter.
