Lifereef prefilter box

I am interested in ordering the lifereef prefilter box and have heard that the acrylic siphon tube can break if you drop it.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had this experience and if I should order an additional siphon tube incase it breaks.

Thanks

I've only had one break when I hit it.

In a pinch you could just make one out of PVC pipe as a temporary backup. The backup would work just fine ... or at least until you buy another one ... if ever.

Yes those siphon tubes will break very easy!!!! I would defiently order an extra.

The boxes them selves are built like tanks!

Ditto to both thoughts.

im fixing to add a sump to my 72 gal bow. I have a t4 veloicty pump that i use for a closed loop system. Iwould like to use it as my return pump. My question is on a 50 gal sump do i have to match the 1000-1200gph the T4 will be pumping, i.e can i get away with a single lifereef overflow box and not the dual 1200 gph model? I would like to run the sump slower if it will cut down on microbubbles, but does it have any other advantages ? I really dont want to use the ball valve that i have on the T4 to restrict it...any opions ?

If you restrict the flow too much it will cause your return pump to overwork and overheat. If you're cutting the flow only 10% or so, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're cutting it 30-50
% I would worry about it.

A mag 9.5 would be just fine for a single overflow box.

frank,
thanks for the reply, i would love to still use the T4 though. Would it drain the sump with only the single? If i have to use the double, any advise about micro's ? I am also conscerned about my skimmer, its a HOB MCE 600. I dont know how it will do in a sump. Plus would i be better getting a sump only style skimmer ??
