The creation of my Mushroom Nano

Dear all

Just a quick word to say Hi.

I've just started a proejct to set up a small mushroom coral tank.

The tank is 2 feet long and will have a built in sump.

I'm blogging my process (http://myviewoftheocean.blogspot.com/)
but I'll make sure that I post my progress (with plenty of pictures) here as well.

This is my tank so far - I've just stuck the sump wall in place and I'm leaving it to set for at least 48 hrs.

how thick is that plastic sheet? I would worry about bowing in the long and possible short term. It looks pretty thin.

I just filled the sump section a 3rd full of water.

Had one small leak in the bottom of the seal.

So I've dried it off and resealed it.

Here's the tank so far.

Still got a lot of work today but I feel I've made a real start over the weekend.

When the rest of the water arrives all the hardware will be moved into the sump section (not shown in the photo).

I've had to do a small mod on the tank hood to get the bulb in there.

I've added some more (very live) rock into the tank and the tank has come alive.

I'll post some pictures of the new inhabitants tomorrow but so far we have spotted:
Bristle worms
1 green snail
1 red snail
Mite type things!
and 2 tentacles sticking out from around a hole

Live rock is great stuff

Here's the latest update and pictures from the tank

I've added some more live rock and the first rock with mushrooms on it.

Some feather dusters were also housed on the rock.
I've put a vid of the coral on my blog

Hi all,
I'm not sure if\how I can post youtube videos here. (feel free to tell me either way).

Last night I set up a motion camera webcam to film my live rock.

The night before last I made my first mushroom frag.

I used a sharp blade to cut off the head.
At the moment both parent and child are doing well

I've added light reflectors to increase light intensity back into the tank.

I've also added some moon light LED's
I really like the effect.

that green and red thing is a Pest Anemone, known as a mojano, you can eithor kill it or simply let it spread. It can sting corals, and spreads relatively quickly,

Injecting it with a shot of hot water, or lemon juice would do the trick...

Thanks Bmgrocks - I've tried blasting it with hot water and it's proving to be a tough little blighter so he's had another blast

the easiest way to get rid of the majano is to stick a fish hook in him...let him shrivel up..about 30 or so seconds...give a little wiggle and he will let go and be on your hook..very easy..

how did you blast the hot water on it without affecting your mushrooms?
