I have some of those in my tank too, I tried pulling them off the rock, almost feels like a tube worm of some kind, and they always come back.

It is a type of green algae, probably a species of Neomeris. Comes in as a hitchiker with some regularity. Much of the time, fish in the tank mow it down, but Ive seen a few cases where it got really well established and grew into nice dense clusters.

Thanks! I'll look that up to learn more about it. Actually grew pretty fast, when it first started sprouting on the rock, it looked like small patches of green hair algae, but they quickly fattened out and turned pale green/white and just kept growing longer. The older growth kinda sheds its "skin" so to speak, really interesting algae...
