Let's see your Bonzai!

Thanks to SolidDetail808 (Mike) I was able to get pictures of my GARF Bonzai's. The original frag was about <1/4" from Sanddollar about 2 years ago or so on an order generated from Frags.org.

This picture is the mother colony about the end of 2006--I swear didn't grow for the first 8 months, lol... To give you an idea of the scale the frag was mounted on a 3/4" ceramic plug.

Mother colony now:

This second colony I accidentally broke off from the mother colony about 1 year ago:

Please post pictures of yours and how long you have had it .

I just wanted to add that this coral is probably the one piece that inspired me to keep coral in the first place. I hope GARF doesn't mind me posting their pictures but, they are so insperational .

BTW Kip that is a very nice bonsai you have there. What lighting do you use and were do you place it in your tank? Your colors are so different then mine .

i've found this coral to look best in less than intense light and it seems to like some poop in the water

my work tank runs 150wDE... i have ush14k in... it's about 2/3rds the way up from the bottom... it gets a good mix of flow too

I recently got this coral (2 months) and its directly under a 150W 14k phoenix. It is growing faster than I thought it would but it looks like crap compared to when I got it. Its a real light purple and the polyps barely come out. Do you guys think it is getting too much light? All my other acros have great color. I just want to get a sense of where you guys are keeping your bonsais.

My colony had the same problem before I moved it over from my 60g to my new 112g--you can kind of tell from the washed out color in the first picture, it was like that for a long time. The main difference in the tanks is that I am using a calcium reactor and the flow is much better. the depth placement was almost identical. I don't think it's getting too much light I have mine at about 4-5" below surface under a 250w MH and the only effect--as you can tell is that the purple is lighter at the tips than at the base, plus I have great PE.

Yeah, mine looks almost identical to yours in the first pic except the polyps don't come out as nicely. Washed out looking is a good way to describe it, that is exactly how I would describe mine. I hope it gets better....

I think I have one, too...not very purple, though, and the polyp extension is much better in the dark:

these days with so many people calling an acro with a little purple and green it is hard to know if you have the "real" bonsai unless you get it straight from GARF or from another known/trusted source.

but it doesnt really matter anyway.... as long as you like the coral and are happy with it.... brand naming isnt a big deal

After an alk spike, I had to chop this one up. It has recovered to about half of its original size.
